QUICK PORTRAIT STUDY

Before I tackle a larger work - I like to PRACTICE on either paper, my sketchbook or smaller mini canvases. This helps me set the stage or create a “dress rehersal” before I make the commitment to a larger canvas. Here I feel free to make those mistakes and work on my looseness (something I am always struggling to conquer).

In this project, I am playing with a reference from the Sktchy app - this is a great resource to find reference material to practice your drawing and painting skills. I am using oil on a panel that has been mounted with my NEW favorite paper - Stonehenge Oil paper.

Supplies I used in this Lesson:

Paper - I am using LEGION Stonehenge oil paper panel - 5x7

Graphite Pencil, eraser

Oil Paint - Titanium White, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Red Light, Ivory Black

Acrylic paint - magenta and hot pink

Linseed Oil

Assorted brushes - I like synthetic rounds and flats

A note on Posterized View - I use an app called POSTERSHINE, VALUE STUDY or ADOBE PHOTOSHOP to transform my reference photo into a posterized view. Most photo editing apps and programs have this feature.
